I love this dictionary series, and this dictionary. It is a great size, a great weight, and a great design. I am very particular about the way my dictionaries feel, and the way they open, and the font, and The Oxford New Russian Dictionary passed all my personal dictionary tests.
When I was studying Russian, I confess I did find myself cheating with the dictionary. Please allow me to explain.
Since it was hard for me to remember the alphabetical order of Russian letters, and since it was therefore time-consuming for me to find words in the Russian half of the dictionary, I often tried to make an educated guess about what the English translations would be, and then I would look the words up backwards, in the English section instead. Even when I guessed wrong, it was still often faster than figuring out where a given Russian word would be.
But I spent only two months on Russian. I feel I would eventually have gotten past that.
I look forward to trying out The Oxford New Russian Dictionary again in the future!
